Move for Suicide Zero is BACK for the second year running (no pun intended!)

Throughout November, we in The Sports Committee are teaming up with SSE and the Center for Sports and Business to bring you a challenge for this November.
New to SSE or need a reminder? Take a look at what SSE and CSB achieved together as a community in November 2025 by clicking on the link below:

Our Mission
1. Move more!
2. Feel better!
3. Raise money for Suicide Zero!

First and foremost, this initiative is about MOVEMENT. As November approaches, grey skies, cold weather, and limited daylight can make staying indoors tempting. We want to help our fellow students get outside, catch some daylight, and make movement part of their day. Whether you run, walk, or simply take a short break outdoors, it all counts!
On the great initiative of Andrew Waters and Andreas Dahlberg, as your Sports Committee we want to bring people together through movement and make it easy for everyone to join in, whatever your experience or fitness level. This November, let’s encourage each other to get moving while supporting an important cause.
Alongside getting active, we’re raising money and awareness for suicide prevention. Suicide Zero is a Swedish non-profit organisation working to radically reduce suicides through awareness, education, and advocacy. We’re proud to support their work again this year.

Why do we do this?
When you consider that approximately 1500 people in Sweden each year die by suicide, the importance of suicide prevention work like this cannot be understated. Reaching out to those around you and asking ‘are you okay’ can make a world of difference. This initiative is grounded in the concept that we are all here for each other and can all help reduce the number of deaths by suicide simply by raising awareness and speaking out.

The NEW goal
To MOVE the total distance between the North Pole and the Equator (approximately 10,000km!).

From the darkness and the cold to the light and the warmth.

Same as last year, we will track your valuable kilometers in the Strava app and update you continuously on our progress throughout. This new goal also adds another 4000 km onto last year’s total, meaning we really need YOUR help if we are going to achieve it.

What’s more?
SSE have again promised to sponsor us with a generous financial donation throughout the journey, meaning the more we move, the more money we raise for Suicide Zero. More about that later.

How to join in
This event is only for current students and staff at SSE. You can compete between cohorts, departments or friends; or take part as a solo venture. You might be a seasoned runner or an inconsistent exerciser — whatever your pace or experience, everyone’s contribution counts.

So, if this sounds interesting, and you want to get involved, simply sign up by visiting the website below and using the registration form there:

What happens next?
For now, all you need to do is sign up. Before November 1, you will receive some final instructions including a link to our Strava group, where we will keep track of our collective progress. Simply join the group and, from November 1, start tracking your movements in the app — it’s really that easy!

How to donate
The school have set up a donation page with all proceeds going directly to the vital work Suicide Zero does each year which you can also find on their website.
You may know people who are not connected to SSE but nevertheless want to donate to this important cause. Let them know what we are doing! The more donations we receive, the more impact we can create together.

Keep a lookout for more information regarding the event!
